Default polaris 08 sportsman 500ho is a workout. time to lose the winter fat!!

wow. it got up to about 40deg today. plowed my last drive. popped my trailer tire on the way back. then took my polaris out for its first snow ride. whent down to a local swamp/lake. did some donuts. played in the snow banks. opend it up. got it up to almost 60mps. but when it got up to about 60 it starts to spit and spudder. must be a safety feature?? any way to get it to go faster? anyways on the way back i was playing in the ditches in the snow banks. got suck in the up side of the ditch twards the road. should have whent faster. but after rocking it back and forth. then while i atempted to start to get some snow out of the way i seen a county sheriff on the corner of my eye going past. i looked and he kept driving. then taking my hand to remove some of the snow under the wheeler and by the wheel i looked up again and he was sitting on the road on my side looking at me then rolled down the window. and asked "can ya get it out?". i said "i hope so. im almost out of gas". also he asked "if i need help just call". i said "yup i will i have a cell phone". then he left. about a min later i was out. i was exspecting to be in trouble of something. i had my 911ep flashers on. suprised he didnt say nothing about them. iv never had bad luck with a cop. i just expect them to give me a hard time. must have been one of the nice ones. i evon drove my other wheeler in town since 00' never had a problem with the local pd, or county. but in 05' durning the city paraide i had a state trooper pull me over and tell me "i cant drive thought town, and cant have a second passanger". told him iv been driving in the town on my wheeler since 00' and the city and county cops never said a word. i also evon seen a few other wheelers with passangers doing the same thing i did. guess i was the lucky sucker to "get the talk". needless to say whent to the city office told them what whent on. and the local pd said "he had no right to say anything and give you a warning. iv seen you in town and you dont do nothing wrong, and i dont car". now i carry the city atv laws with the wheeler. but never seen the trooper again.... but anyways after riding and getting stuck. my arms are sore and my body akes!! feels good tho. lol supose to be in the 60s here in mn this next week.... whooo..........

Chuck you guys in MN are lucky people to live in a state that allows you to ride even on county roads without being hassled with warning for riding on public roads , here in Northwest Ga. they don't even sell utility license plates since the late 90's ; even then the only legal roads we were allowed to ride an atv was on the access roads leading to the trail heads .

And then at least one rider had to be at least 18 and have a valid drivers license and utility license plate in the group to make it legal , then a law was passed that prohibited the sale of the utility plates on atv's ; the reason given was that people driving on these National Forrest Road's in motorhomes and campers would call in the Forrest Service Rangers complaining that irresponsible rider's of atv's and dirt bikes were causing near miss accident's from wreakless rider's !

So because of a few bad apple's we were taken away the right to license our quad's so we could use these access roads , and the only time we were allowed on State , County and city roadways was during the " Blizzard Of 93' " because atv's were about the only way to get around to help people that were homebound with no power or water ; for almost a month after the storm my best freind and i were riding around having a good time helping people when we came through a trail that crossed a roadway i crossed this road that was in the county on one side and the other side was in the city .

I stopped to wait on my freind to catch up with me then as i was crossing the road i saw a County Mounty top the hill coming in our direction , when my freind got to the edge of the road he drove across the road in front of the Mounty causing the Deputy to hit his brakes to keep from hitting my freind ; i had already gotten acoss the road and half way across an old Rail Road crossing and stopped to see if my freind was going to keep going .

Instead he stopped to talk to the young Deputy , i firgured at the very least the Deputy would give my freind a warning or site him for crossing the road without looking even though the Deputy lived in the neiborhood and was a good freind and lived next door to my freinds brother ; but instead he told sam my freind to be more carefull and that the State , County and City Law Enforsement were allowing owners of atv's to ride because they were helping people to survive the Blizzard !

He told us that as long as people that were on the roads in automobiles with snow chains that were finally able to get around on the few roads that were finally opened didn't call in reporting near accidents by atv's they wouldn't stop us from riding , and while we were sitting there he told my freind that i was legal to ride county roads because i had a motorcycle tag on my 86' Honda TRX350FM 4x4 ; the reason i was able to get a motorcycle tag for the Foreman instead of a utility tag like all the other atv's was that the 86' Honda TRX350FM Foreman 4x4 was titled as a motorcycle like all other quads were !

My 86' Honda TRX350FM Foreman 4x4 was the only year model atv that was titled as a motorcycle , as far as i know it was the only utility atv that was ever titled as a motorcycle instead of an ATV/ORV like all other quads ; i don't know if it was a mistake/error made when it was titled but it was the only atv i've ever seen that was titled as such !

So like i said you guys in MN and other states that do alow atv's to be riden on even county roads are very lucky indeed to have this preiveldge , i hope for the sake of you guy's a few bad apples don't ruin it for you and all the other responsible rider's that are carefull and operate your quad's the way all atv'ers should ; sorry for the long post but i just wanted to take the time to remind people like you how easy this priveledge can be taken away if it does it won't be the fault of riders like you !.........

I live in SD, here we can ride on every road but interstates. I see more "idiots" driving cars than I do driving ATV's. Around here the only thing that poses the risk of getting our privledge taken away is some of the sport quad ridiers with their noisy exhaust and reckless wheelie popping is beginning to torque off the cops. They are marginally leagel in terms of our laws. We have to have a horn brake light, marker lights, liscense plate light, rear view mirror, at least 250cc, headlights, and a muffler. Many of them don't even have headlights. None of them have speedo which is not required, but you have to obey the laws. It's always some cocky high school/ college kid being an IDIOT. If they ruin it for the rest of us I'll cut their chain and use it to whip em!!!
