Default POLARIS 08 EFI 500 PROBLEMS!

Forgot to add this. The guy at the shop had another Polaris in with the same problem. Once he found it on my bike, it fixed the problem on the other one also. Like I said, Polaris knows about it, but apparently are still making us pay for the fix.

Default POLARIS 08 EFI 500 PROBLEMS!

I really don't know without a diagram. It was the orange wire that broke is all I really know.

Default POLARIS 08 EFI 500 PROBLEMS!

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Originally posted by: Wylie1973

Ok, I would bet I know the problem. I had pretty much the EXACT same problem with my 08 800. We tried everything we could think of to try and finally gave up and took it to the local shop. Just got it back Tuesday. The guy said it took him like 2 hours to trace the problem. It is the wire harness for the Barometric (I think) Pressure Sensor. Polaris knows about the problem. The factory wires are to short and they get pulled and break off. There is a pigtail wire harness available to fix the problem for like 40 or 50 bucks. It cost me $110 to get it fixed with labor included. Running great again now. I really hope this helps. I was so frustrated with this problem, I know exactly how you are feeling.</end quote></div>

Does that go for the 500 model also? I hear the efi models will not run right if the battery is to 100% healthy is this true?

Default POLARIS 08 EFI 500 PROBLEMS!

From what I was led to believe by the guy at the shop, it is a problem in the 08's. He never said it was just the 800's. Mine is EFI also, so I don't think that is an issue. The symptoms are similar to those I've had with vehicles in the past when there was a problem with the oxygen sensor. I'm by no means a mechanic, I'm just going by what the guy at the shop told me and it seems to be running right after fixing it.

Smile 2008 Sportsman 500 EFI problems

I had the same problems with my 2008 sportsman 500 EFI. When my atv was brand new I had about 20 miles on it. The machine ran fine until it died on me. It started right up and died on me again while idling. It started right back up but it started popping and it died again. The only way it would stay running is if I kept giving it enough gas to stay running. I started checking every wire connection. I mean everything! I found the problem at my spark plug wire. I don't know if it was at the factory or the place that I bought my Polaris from the plug wire was not seated on the plug. In other words it popped off the plug until it would not even get a spark. So before you take it to a dealership check your spark plug. And your plug wire

Default Update!

So I gets da call! " the intake bolts were loose, ordered a new gasket, @ 10 days from Polaris, Your ATV's done, Runs Great, $300.00 bucks please"! So I goes dare and I see it sitting out back so I decided to start er up before I give these melon heads my money.
WRANG! WRANG! WRANG! putt, putt putt dead! Try er agin! Same damn thing. Go inside to the dealer and I'm furious!!!! I spoke with the ace mechanic and he said, "it ran good in here". So I reply; "HMMMM, perhaps it don't like the outside"! So he comes back with, "maybe water in the gas tank, I'll have to drain it". This was 5 days ago and still no ATV. I'll keep you all posted.

I deal with this kind of stuff everyday on lift trucks. You have a wire breaking down somewhere. All you have said points directly to it. I can't tell you exactly which wire or what harness but I am willing to bet a sixer I am right.

Keep us posted. And have them check the Barometric Pressure Sensor Wire Harness.
