just bought a 94 400l 4X4 first ?
well I got a good deal on a 94 400l. and the one big problem is that it has HI,LO,REV. only goes low and rev. put it into hi and it clicks like its not all the way in gear. but I adjusted and it is. would anyone know the part that might be the problem? seems that the guy that owned it befor just rammed the thing into hi with the rpms to high and it finily took its toll. any ideas would be great. but I do plan on removing the gear box and checking.

happy easter!!!!
I hope its that easy. going to start taking apart today. what year did they start using the driveshaft insted of chains for the front? I had a 99 scrambler and it had a shaft, but my cousen had a 96 scrambler and it had chains. is the gear box easy to figure out in disassembley?
many thanks

I replaced a lot with an updated kit that had the shift forks and shaft milled out of solid bar stock. It came with complete trans gears. I Dont think the kit is still available, but you probably just need the shift fork which will be the updated one and forward engagement dog and forward gear, since its probably ground down by now.

Since yours is shifting into hi range off and on you might get by for awhile with just a linkage adjustment. Shift into NEUTRAL,loosen pipe and move out ot the way, loosen 10mm locknuts on hi-n-r and low linkage rod ball ends close to shift box, take off 10 mm nuts from bottom of ball ends at shift box and pull up linkage rods. Adjust ball ends out or in to where they just drop STRAIGHT in shift arms with no pulling or pushing of linkage while still in neutral. This might help for awhile if your tranny isn't in as bad a shape as the other poster's machine. Good luck opt
