i can see when taking it apart to fix something to do a cleaning. iv done it on replacing the cv boots. it dont say you have to. but i do just in case of dirt or something i cant see. other than that i wouldnt just take it apart to just clean it if it works. but i guess if it is dirty id do it.

I don't think anyone was saying to just take it apart and clean it,they were talking about during a belt replacement. BUT there is an hour interval for inspecting the belt..so if you pull the cover to look at the belt and clutches..which you should periodically..that would be a good time to clean up. Preventative maintenance.

Can anybody chime in on this solvent. I gotta think rubbing alcohol would do the trick...Acetone maybe? Acetone is good stuff.

I use Dawn it cuts oils well. Just make sure you rinse well and let it dry completely.

Yep, talked to a guy at my dealer a while back who is into snowmobiles, and snowmobile racing. He told me to use 303 Aerospace Cleaner (not the protectant) to clean up a new belt prior to installation. Since I already use that cleaner for detailing, and being that it's biodegradable and is safe to use on anything that it is safe to use water on... I will use it.

He also told me to break in a new belt with a few quick short bursts in low range. Then drive it normal for a while... then a few more quick short bursts in low range. Not sure if he is right... but it sounds fine to me.

yup iv been in the cvt. it was a pain to get to. taking off the fender and foot well was a bigger pain on my old one. just becuse of all the screws and bolts. but i did that on my old 00'. i had to take it off since i sunk it at a local river. i havent taken my new on apart yet. as i havent needed to yet. but i know my newer one if a bit easyier since there are more push pins than screws.
