how to break in a new belt
#11
i can see when taking it apart to fix something to do a cleaning. iv done it on replacing the cv boots. it dont say you have to. but i do just in case of dirt or something i cant see. other than that i wouldnt just take it apart to just clean it if it works. but i guess if it is dirty id do it.

I don't think anyone was saying to just take it apart and clean it,they were talking about during a belt replacement. BUT there is an hour interval for inspecting the belt..so if you pull the cover to look at the belt and clutches..which you should periodically..that would be a good time to clean up. Preventative maintenance.

The washing of the belt is not in the manual, but if releasing agents are used in the manufacturing process it is probably a good idea,I have done it and maybe it was my imagination but the belt seemed to be grippy right off the bat compared to just throwing a new belt on without washing it. I use Dawn
it cuts oils well. Just make sure you rinse well and let it dry completely.

He also told me to break in a new belt with a few quick short bursts in low range. Then drive it normal for a while... then a few more quick short bursts in low range. Not sure if he is right... but it sounds fine to me.

there was about 6 on my 00 and thing theres about 8 on this one. if it only was as easy as taking off the 6-8 screws it be easy but can you take your clutch cover off with out removing the foot well and fender?

yup iv been in the cvt. it was a pain to get to. taking off the fender and foot well was a bigger pain on my old one. just becuse of all the screws and bolts. but i did that on my old 00'. i had to take it off since i sunk it at a local river. i havent taken my new on apart yet. as i havent needed to yet. but i know my newer one if a bit easyier since there are more push pins than screws.
