99 350 Big Bear vs 09 350 specs 1999 Yamaha Big Bear ATVs

The Predator has a different 48hp 500 DOHC motor then the Scramblers 36hp SOHC Motor.

Polaris (2007)

Hawkeye 300=17
trailblazer 330=19 hp
Phoenix 200=13 hp
sportsman 450=29.7 hp
Sportsman 500 Ho (carB) 34.5hp
Sportsman 500 EFI/x2/Scrambler 500=36 hp
Predator 500 = 48 HP
Outlaw 500 = 48.6 HP
700 EFI= 44 HP
800 EFI/ 800x2 = 50.2 HP

Yamaha (2007)

450 Kodiak = 26 Hp
350 bruin = 21.3 hp
350 raptor = 26.8 hp
yfz 450 = 38.6 hp
700r = 47 hp
660 = 40.9 hp

Granted the Raptors 348 is hoped up to 26hp do to a larger 36mm carb and other things but still a Scrambler should have its way with it.
Nice HP numbers....but where are the power-to-weight ratios? They mean a lot more......

The Raptor 350 weighs 370 pounds........ the Scrambler is not even in the same Universe on the scale. The 10 extra HP does not make up for that much weight.

I've seen my Wife on her 350 run right with my buddy's 400cc 2-wheel drive Scrammy..... the 400cc will take her off the line but she slowly reels it back in until they are even by 4th gear.

The 500 Scrammy is almost dead even with the Raptor, in fact if she gets off the line better he cannot get his nose back in front at all. But if he gets off the line first, she can close the gap again by about the same 4th gear.

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

And the Predator is even faster than the z400 so it will easily smoke a Scrammy.
On the 500s I will run with any Sport quad in the woods, rocks and mud.
On the 400s if you get beat by a 400cc import in a drag of 1/4 or less you dont have the 400L set up right. My last 400 Scrambler ran neck to neck with 660 Raptors.
The 500s are not fast and arent intended to be they are a very versidal sporty quad that can be modded into one that will hold its own.

I would have to agree. The 500 scrammy will hold its own wieght. I have own several atvs. I would have to say the 500 scrammy to me is the easist and the most versitile quad. Expecially on the trails. These imports are good on the straight aways, but when you get them on the trails and hill climbs. They are not all that great. Even the 2-wheel drive scrammy can climb better than some of the 4-wheel drive quads. It is a good all around quad. You can race it with mods, you can just ride without having to get into it to make it move and you can flat out get into it and just hang on and don't have to worry about clutching and changing gears. Plus, comparing the preditor and the scrammy is the same as apple and oranges. 2 completely different setups.

A 165lb lighter weight advantage of a 350 Raptor will not make up for a 10hp advantage of a scrambler. A sportsman 500 (same motor as a scrambler) smoke every 500 class utility ATV except a 500 Outlander and it the heaviest 500 utility out there by well over 100 lbs.

Even when I put a 150lb passenger on the back I do not feel much difference in speed or acceleration.

The only way I would know if a passenger ever fell off is to take a look back to see if she is still there, not because of some sudden surge of acceleration the loss of 150lbs will give me.

I'm with this guy, had 3 of the '99 Scrammy 400 4x4's, and definitely with some clutching and a decent pipe/silencer combo, the dream-o-meter hit 70MPH quite often, and that is GPS talk boys!!!

You guys are comparing 4x4 with a 2 wheel drive model, and additional weight over 150LBS. Tell me weight has nothing to do with the race?

Not with the old tired Yamaha 348cc motor, heck my 1989 Big Bear 4x4 had that same motor. it needed two down shifts to go up the road hill at 30 mph that I can fly up at 50 mph now. The 200lb lighter weight of the BB did not help it in the least.

A 200lb lighter ATV will not make up for the 30% hp advantage the 499 Fugi has over the old 348 motor.

I would but my money on a Yamaha 420 Wolverine over the 350 Raptor/Warrior let alone a Scrambler.

My old Scrammy before I sold it would run right with my friends Raptor 350 and out accelerate but get beaten on top end. Friend has a 500 Scrambler that has raced the same Raptor gets beaten on topend also.
