Default clutch knocking

I have a 03 400 sportsman and i noticed the clutch starts knocking when warmed up.I took the cover off and there is a little play from side to side.Is there suppose to be any play at all.I also put a new belt on.What could be the problem?
At first i thought the the noise was coming from the motor.

there are little buttons(6 total) that the clutch slides out on, in the spider towers. they are a wear part, and need to be replaced. i have an 02 and just replaced mine a few months ago. so your probably due.

time for a rebuild play tolerance is very small if you feel it from side to side buttons are done.....replace before they cause damage to the slide...and the bushings.... i would replace the bushing reguardless.... even if they look ok...

take the clutch apart and then take it to the dealer to have them remove and install the bushings, they are very soft and damaged easily, you can change the buttons and finish the clutch assembly yourself.

if you know someone that has a bearing race driver set they work good...... the bushings are soft but managable... what ever you use to knock them in /out make sure the o-d matches correctly with the i-d if the clutch housing or your in for trouble....
