Exclamation 2000 sportsman wierd problem

On my 2000 sportsman 335 is having a problem i can't figure out. when going forward the engine seems to cut out when you give it more than just a little throttle. I tried changing out the gas and the spark plug but it makes no difference. Also when in neutral and reverse when the override is on it seems to run fine.
How would you disable the reverse limiter I think that could be causing this.

check the transmission switch to see if working correctly. the override is kicking in when in forward by the sounds of it.

I disabled the reverse limiter and it still cuts out going forward. Any ideas?

turns out it was the air filter......I removed the lid and filter and it doesn't cut out anymore and has about twice as much power.
