A fuel "filter" inside the tank...I hope they didn't put a maintenance component inside the tank. I could see the fuel "pump" inside the tank - but not a filter.

The service manual says that there are two fuel filters located within the fuel pump assembly. If the internal fuel pump filters require service, the fuel pump and fuel tank must be replaced as an assembly!
Why would they do something stupid like that!?
This problem needs to be addressed by Polaris! There should be an in-line filter that is serviceable by the owners!

I suggest that everyone pre-filters their gas prior to putting it into the tank. I'm going to pick up a funnel that you can put filters in to do this! It will make fueling up a bit more of a chore but worth it IMO!

Yes they do have fuel filters inside the fuel tank on some atv and automotive applications. I did a lookup and found there is a filter on our xp that is external here is a link http://parts.polarisind.com/Assemblies.asp

That's the problem with having the fuel pump in the tank, there is real no way to have an in-line filter accessible to service. However there could be a filter for the gas going into the tank that rests under the filler cap in the tanks filler neck. This would pre-filter all fuel going into the tank. Polaris or an aftermarket manufacturer should step up and offer one! JMO!
