850xp front end recall

So yeah, if I bought a new car today and it had one "major" recall in the first year, I probably wouldn't be too worried about it.
Cheers,

I feel even better about the deal I go on my current machine...take away $500 for the 3 year warranty and it was $950 less out the door than the 2010 850XP Touring's MSRP...and I got a Warn winch and Bumpers...sweet!
Sorry your post just clicked a lightbulb..lol.

I don't know the exact differences either, other than the CPSC gets involved with recalls
But I would imagine a recall is more costly and restrictive, more attorney fees, there has to likely be more tracking of notification, probably more effort to notify ect...I don't know how involved CPSC get with the fix for a recall issue..but as it is no one is overseeing what Polaris is doing to fix the issue...
And while the guy who goes in an gets everything replaced "2 kits",what about the guy whose dealers says,"ahh you just need some new bolts"...? Wld that give you the warm and fuzzy? Wold you go out and ride the machine just as hard as if you had never heard of the issue? With them replacing both of you knuckles,2 kits do you have the warm and fuzzy? Do the ball joints never cross your mind when you are riding? That concern IMO drastically devalues a machine...who wants to worry about that? Ball joints are no joke, and while no one has gotten killed yet, that we know of,the possibility is there...and that is the big deal..heck the recall for the fire hazard with the breather valve IMO is a joke compared to this..the engine catches fire ..you stop get off and walk away and watch it burn, maybe you get a little burn on the leg if you can't get off quick enough...a ball joint fails at 20,30 40+ mph on a wooded trail...you aren't walking away from that. Granted the ball joints themselves aren't the issue, but being loose in the knuckle is putting them in a position to fail.
It can be fixed,no doubt but IMO there needs to be a more definitive fix...it should make the knowledgeable comsumer say...yep that is fixed no doubt.

True and that is a good point. What does a 3 year warranty run? About $500??

Has anyone found out what the difference in the parts is from the first XP's to the next, and how about the replacements? Some say the replacement is the same parts.......

Some folks are patting Polaris on the back for "taking care of the issue"... how naive.
We all know Polaris is just trying to CTA, and trying to do so quickly. They've put themselves in a real fickle by "engineering" such a masterful suspension and backed it up with superb Q & A. (Cough Cough).
With their "recall", or admission, or whatever anybody wants to call it... if someone gets hurt (or worse) and a lawyer sees a broken ball joint on the machine, he will be licking his chops.

I have see recalls related to mechanical failures are very specific about the issue and the fix....no all are,but some are,and I think this one needs to be...JMO

If you're covered and something goes wrong, it's not that big a deal. If you're not covered and something major (like ball joints) goes bad.....you're not a happy camper. I understand the frustration in certain situations. Same applies to all manufacturers of all gear.

Don't leave your bike in the shop for three weeks waiting for new axles....it's just a clicking sound. Have them check it out and order the parts. When the parts come in, they can call you and swap out the axles in like 15 minutes......Now if your ball joints are wobbling around, then that's a different story.

When my warranty runs out the bike will be traded in or sold. Likely be a Polaris, but who knows. Maybe you all will poison my view of this American manufacturer.
