trying to hook up lighted switch for grip heaters
Trying to hook up this lighted switch for my grip heaters as the originol got broken. So I hook it up and ground it and then I get high pitch whine from the ignition switch and when the lighted rocker switch is on my winch works fine and as soon as i turn that switch off the winch isn't getting any power. The winch switch is powered by the same accessory Orange/white wires under front cover panel, as the grip heaters. So what gives? Can I just run hot wire from battery up to the pod for switched accessories so long as I put a fusable link in there? The other thing is I replaced my winch contactor last week and the new one had a ground wire w/ a crimped on eye to go on the neg. terminal of the contactor would that be causing any problems as the old contactor didn't have that ground wire coming out of it.

I'd try a little reverse engineering to isolate the problem. Sounds to me like it is probably a grounding issue. And yes you can hook up a direct feed for power with a fusable link, just don't forget it's turned on as it may cause a drain on the battery while parked. Don't know about your contactor/ grounding loop, Try calling the manufacturer and ask why it's different from the old one.

oem or aftermarket switch? id say check the ground or disconect it. the ground for the lighted switch is only for the light in the switch nothing else.
iv never seen a eyelet on the contractor. the contractors iv seen were grounded to the main ground of the winch power/ground wires to the battery. and the ones i have worked on have a red wire that goes to an igniton sorace like the orange/white under the front cover. i have a fuse pannel i added and both the aux wires go to that fuse block. everything iv added is fused there.

ground assured
Hey Chuck, I'm almost positive that it's a ground issue, and that ground on the contactor really baffles me too. I'm wondering about taking disconnecting that ground once to see if it's neccessary and that's what's causing my popo's issues, what do you think? The other question is what size fuse do you think I should install if I go that route? I was thinking 20A since that is what the switch is rated at, the switch came from an auto parts store. The original was from moose, on-off-on, I soldered the low and high wires together so all would be on since when I need them on it's cold enough to want them real warm.
