Hello,
My stock winch died on me. Im looking for a different one under $250. I saw a couple on ebay. Anyone know how reliable the gorilla or viper ones are?

 

The cabelas trail tamers are good winches and on sale right now. I have one and havent had any problems with it yet. Ive heard good things about the gorrilla winches but have never used one.

 

yep ebay and gorilla are are an inexpensive set up that works pretty good.imo

 

I have a gorilla, some people have great luck with them, I must have got a bad one at first, because I sent it in and they replaced parts, and it croaked again, so they said send it in, and after some complaining, they just sent me a new one, and it has been fine for almost 2 years. But I will say, the customer service was excellent, fast shipping.

 

My Viper has been great so far... That said before I bought it from the research that I did it seems as though more people have had better luck with the Vipers compared to the other cheaper brands.

I found it cheaper on Ebay. I paid 169.00 for the total package W/mounting plate. I think it was about 143.00 with synthetic rope package and with out mounting plate. So far I have only used it for lifting plow blade, working great so far.
I did remove the syn/rope and replaced it with an old tie down strap for lifting the plow

 

That promark is/was gorrilla, they recently changed their name. Also I have the 3,000lb. XTR with synthetic rope. I will say the rope is pretty cheap, but I haven't broken it yet, but I do have some amsteel, that is much better quality
