Default 500 sportsman

I have a 2000 500 sportsman that I just purchased used. it has low hours but when idling it trys to pull off or if on very level ground it will pull off. I've tried to idle it down, also it is very difficult to shift from H to R or to L. Where should I start to look or fix?

welcome to the forum. if i understand your question correctly, your bike will creep ahead while in gear at idle right? if correct, the idle should be around 1200 rpm's and should not move ahead. sounds like the ebs bushing or fiber washers in the primary clutch are bad or the clutches are out of alignemnt. sometimes if an engine mount breaks apart it will throw off an alignment. do a search on the forum for creeping ahead and you'll find dozens of post on it.

I have the same year Sportsman. Take your gear selector apart and inspect it. Mine had a broken pin (which centers the stick) and also didn't have any oil in it. I took it all apart, clean everything and filled with 20wt oil. It works SOOO much better now.
