Default Scrambler 500/HO carb on 99 Sportsman...any problems?

99 Polaris Sporsman 500 4x4. Had a problem with the stock carb with it. Previous owner really fubar'd it. I got a Scrambler carb off of eBay for around 20 bucks. Went about installing it. Only has a couple of issues really....
1) Had to drill 2 new holes for the screws on the carb to body plate to match up with the different screw hole locations.

2) Had to ground about 3-4mm off the radius portion of same plate.

3) Reroute throttle cable through body.

4) Swap over choke cable off of fubar'd carb. Choke cable was too short on the Scrambler carb to work.

5) Hose to airbox is now too big. Had to cut a small slit in it and really clamp it down, overlapping the rubber and putting a small dab of silicone on the slit to ensure an airtight seal.

6) Had to get an intoake boot off of a Scrambler/HO model. No biggie.

My only concern is this...would there be any engine problems with this set up? Basically concerned about maybe leaning the engine out due to the 40mm opening as opposed to the stock 34mm opening, or maybe running too rich because it still has the stock 500 cam in it.

Seems to have a little more pickup and snort, but really don't have a good comparison to it as the old carb was fubar.

I know it works the other way around. I guy I know used his old 34mm carb on his new 500 H.O motor swap and the ATV runs fine. Not even a jet change.

Here is his PM to me.

Hi TLC,
Just wanted to thank you for the info you gave me on the engine swap on the '05 Sportsman 400. The 500 H.O plugged in there with little hassle and ran like a champ......didn't even have to change jetting which I found odd. Anyway, I really appreciate your help!

I know with the Ho cam, depending on elevetionwith the larger carb it needs around a 152.5 main, without the cam I would start at 145 main and see how it ran, plug should be a little on the black side so it's not too lean.

It runs good, no bogging and has good acceleration. Pulled the spark plug and looks normal.

And it's about time, cross my fingers...this thing has been an adventure. After a new stator, seals, head gasket, belt and a myriad of other problems, it's running good now.
