Angry 350l woes

Been working on a 350l 2x4 for bout a month now. Got it from a quy that said that the motor had been recently built. Needed batt and cables and for some reason the guy had hacked off the back of the exhaust. got some new exhaust for it, new plug, new intake boot, carb kit. Almost impossible to start. You have to put the boost charger on it to start it (i have too small a batt in it right now) crank it with the choke fully on and feather the throttle it will hit faster and faster till it finally starts. As long as its running it runs good but wont idle and even harder to start when warm. When i had tried cranking it with the small batt and no charger I noticed no spark. It seems to crank over ok butt really needs that extra power to start. any ideas?

welcome to the forum. check the compression first even though he said the top end had been done just to make sure.

My compression tester took a crap at the moment. Once you get it running and take it out it seems to have plenty of power tho....
