Default 04 Sportsman 600 RPM?

I have an 04 Sportsman 600 with 1000 original miles that doesn't seem to have the power it use to have.. I have been through the clutches, replaced the springs, bushings, etc, replaced the air filter, checked the intake boot, replaced plugs etc and still can't seem to get the rpms much over 5600.. I normally ride at 7-10,000 feet and am running Goodyear Rawhide tires. Ive only had it two years but it use to belong to a friend and it seemed like it always was a quite fast compared to the 500 ho that I had. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

You changed the buttons on the clutch? Also the belt both I and a friend with a 500 scrambler changed our belts at 2000 miles, both of the old belts looked quite good and we thought we were wasting our time and money, but we changed the belts anyways. Both ATVs woke up and had quicker throttle response and faster top end.

I didn't change the buttons in the primary because there really wasn't any play to speak of.. The clutches were still quite tight only having less than 1000 miles.. I thought springs were going to be the culprits.. I didn't change the belt either.. It still looked like new.. I can pick a belt up easy enough and give that a try..

Our belts looked really good also. I we kept them they looked so good, but I guess even a 1/16 of a inch wear can cause a performance drop.

Well, checked the carb diaphragm (no holes) and put a new belt on. Also checked over the clutches again for play or anything that was sticking or anything which seemed wrong.. The new belt picked me up 300 rpm.. Im now running 56-5700 rpm wide open.. Definitely better, but still not where it should be.. I was told the Rawhides are heavy and rob a few hundred rpm.. Anyone else heard this?

Snownut,
Was your friend also riding at that altitude? you are going to loose power the higher you go.I live and ride at under 1000 feet above sea level
Maybe fuel, I use regular fuel but some guys might run higher octain.

Did this all happen after your tire change? My friends 660 Grizzly realy slowed down when he put wider 26" swap Witch tires on his ATV from his 25' Dunlops.
