Question Year of My Sportsman 400 4x4--1997 ???

Whats up fellas. I bought this Polaris Sportsman 400 4x4 and was told it is a 1997. I have to get it running and need a manual, so I bought and downloaded one from tradebit, but the manual doesn't cover CHAIN drive models.
Some of the VIN no's aren't readable so I can't be 100% sure of the year. It is a 2-stroke, 400, 4x4, chain drive front and rear. Anyone want to guess the year? I appreciate any replies.

That's a photo of a Sportsman 500. The ATV in question is a Sportsman 400. Totally different machines and body styles.

The photo of the "94" you listed isn't the same as the ATV in question either. The decals are wrong.

The OP's photos sure look like a 1997 Sportsman 400L.

My guess is it is a 97 also,no later then 96 going by the decals. They came stock with goodyear P trackers and your are still on the back.it also has the same decal color scheme as on our 97 500 Sportsman.
