When i replace the recoil case after inspection, and cleaning, do i use use rtv around the full flange when replacing or is there something else i should be using as sealer?
i noticed there is something that looks like a bead of rtv around the full flange now, but just wasn't sure if thats what it is before i bust into it.. it looks clear/white.

last question,
once i remove the recoil case, its been already determined in this thread that nothing will surprise me like springs or anything, but will the bendix come out or fall out on its own? I dont think so but have to ask. Am i taking it out to clean or just spraying wd40 on it and cleaning up, resealing and walla done. is there any allignment required when putting the case back on, or self explanatory?
thanks,

When you clean everything up and relube do not use WD-40! I love the stuff for loosening a sticky joint or bolt but it has the property's to draw moisture over time. Use a quality silicon lube instead on moving parts. A good quality rtv will be fine for resealing the recoil. I always use a high temp on applications that seal against an engine.

The same thing happened to my bike last week and it turned out to be a bad bendix. I cleaned it all up but the spring that holds the weights had broken. Installed a new bendix and all my problems were solved.
Its not a hard job. The worst part about the whole thing is pulling the bendix out. If you twist the bendix back in and wiggle it alot it will come out without a problem.

thanks everyone!
just a quick followup to my situation.
I did purchase a new bendix on line from DB Electrical ($30 with shipping) and it arrived in a few days. The job was very easy, and the old bendix was obviously the problem. old one came out easy and the new one went in without a hitch. Cleaned everything up and resealed with RTV. turned the key and she started up just fine.
Again thanks for all the info in this thread.
