well that sure was promising! it started and idled better than ever. which was not that hard haha. But at any rate after moving it a ten feet or so it died.
Oh i forgot to tell you the reason there was no spark was the plug wire came out of the plug boot! So im just gonna replace that wire.
It should be just a little screw head coming out the coil correct? And you twist on the new plug wire? at least thats how it was on my evinrude I changed the coil in.

I not sure how the wire is held in the coil, you could try squeezing the rubber boot with a pair of needle nose pliers where the metal is in it that way it will grab the plug better. if you have any dielectric grease you might want to put that in the boot as well.

its too cold out so i switched projects and took the past 3 hours or more stripping off 30 year old camo tape off of a real nice Ithaca SBK xl900 20 gauge. who would deface such a beautiful piece is beyond me but its back to its former glory.

but at any rate tomorrow morning ill check out that coil and let ya know. Im pretty sure i have plug wire laying around from another project. If not good thing its cheap enough right

Yup thats exactly how its set up with the post up in there that you just screw on the plug wire. I still have to get some wire but i got a used coil from a parts quad. got spark no problem and yes it started and ran and idled. for a little while. About 10 minutes or so of fun.
it ripped across the yard i gotta say i did enjoy that, and the 4 wheel drive is somethin else!
took it across to my back field and it started to get a little boggy and less responsive. not 5 feet coming back over the bridge did it quit.
checked spark again, its got spark, so now im thinking not gettin gas, maybe an old cracked line or something.

it never ends

Like you say it never ends LOL I finally got my trail boss running like a champ and I went and traded it for the sportsman I have now 2grand later and I`m still working on it. it runs great but there is still little stuff that should be dont to get it back to mint.
I have a few things in mind for yours; when it quit if you let it sit for say 15 minutes will it start back up? might be a plugged vent line for the gas tank. easy to figure out just loosen the gas cap and if that fixes the problem then for sure its the vent line they do get plugged from time to time. next thing is the fuel filter good? I don`t recommend by passing it but taking it off and blowing it out will help for a bit. when the quad was bogging out did it die on you? if it did could you pull the recoil start just after it died. the reason i ask is I`m wondering if maybe it was over heating and started to seize. since the quad is new to you I`d maybe try adding a 40:1 mix oil and gas in the tank for a few tanks to see it that helps the motor to run longer.
We will get it sorted out and running great if there is anyone else reading this and you have any ideas please chime in.

id stayed running just kinda boggy, less and less responsive until it stopped running and that was that. But yes i could still pull it over, and had the same compression feel. i tried maybe 5 mins or so later but this 10 degree weather is a killer.
I have a new fuel filter i was going to use on a tw200 but i need a smaller one for that so i am going to replace the fuel lines, put hose clamps on all fittings, and get the new fuel filter in.
Ill get another 2 gallons and mix this one 40 to 1 in the morning.
If anything this is a hell of a reference for someone in the future

I agree but we did sort somethings out. is your air box & air filter on and the little flapper in the bottom of it closed? could snow be getting to the carb and icing it? picking straws here now I`m sure the fix is easy its just figuring out what it is ?you did say you put a different coil on it correct? could the coil be heating up and braking down? ride it untill it starts to act up then let it cool down (about 30 minutes) and try to start it, if it starts ride it again this time with the gas cap loose,a new gas filter on and the oil gas mix if it does the same thing bogging down id then start looking at electronic issues

ok i didnt abandon this project, wife had the flu so in tern i got the flu and couple that with a new job its been kinda all over the place, but! i just pulled it over and one pull started right up. till it quit after one run around the house.

my guess is its choking itself out so i think either the choke or the floats. what do you think?
