'10 Sportsman 550 clunk
#1
Got about 400 miles on it and when the throttle is applied it has a hearty clunk (most times) when the clutch engages, both forward and reverse.
What would cause that? Is it normal?
thanks,
Effer

Can't be 100% certain, but sounds like you are describing the old drive train "lash", that is the clunking noise because of the slack from the driven clutch to the transmission to the drive shafts. Its more prominent in high torque machines such as the 700 800 twins and even more so in the new 550 and 850 atvs. OPT

On my 850 I watch my RPMs and slide them up till the clutch engages for my first morning ride, increasing the power slow so I don't hear that clunk. Once everything is warmed up I can just hit it and no noise. I don't think it is a problem just don't like to hear it.
