Default Polaris Sportsman 500

I'm starting to have braking problems on my quad. I removed the rear caliper off the rotor and found only 1 side of the caliper piston is moving. Is this the correct way for this caliper to work or are both sides suppose to move together. Greg

1996 Sportsman 500. Brakes felt loose and slowing down was a problem. Took everything apart to check the pads and they were fine. Fluid is fine. Just that rear caliper.

Just has the one small piston on the 96 model and usually wears out the pad on the piston side, plus has the old mechanical emergency pedal that sometimes freezes up. You can turn in the adjuster screw on the lever and see if the pedal can free up the piston. If not, the piston and seal kits are still available. OPT
