Needle speed indicator off pivot
#1
I have a 2008 polaris sportsman 800. the needle indicating the speed came off its pivot and is now loose inside behind the protective glass. Wondering if anyone had this problem before? Can the front of the instrument cluster be accessed from the back or it is a sealed unit? If it is a sealed unit, can the protective plastic front be drilled to replace the needle on its pivot with tweezers and the plastic be resealed? that's what I plan to try if i can't open it from the back. Any danger to chatter the whole front glass?
Thanks for all your replies? Dan

dan, the glass is a sealed unit. haven't hears of too many loosing the needle, but there again my nedle is going backwards on my 500 and no body has seen that either.
anyways you can take it apart, but will have to find some way to reseal it again maybe w/ clear slicon or something. you just don't "ANY" moisture to get in there to mess with it. new speedos arent cheap!

Finally got around fixing this problem. Ended up drilling a hole in the front plastic/lexan?? after some test on different lenses coming from car speedos, lights etc. Started with a 3/16 drill bit and had to work up to 1/4, 5/16, and 3/8 to finally be able to use tweezers to put the needle back on it's pivot after cleaning up the plastic shavings inside the unit with a bit of compressed air. I resealed with some Lepage super glue good guaranteed to work on all types of plastics and a white plug I had in the never to be used again but don't throw away bin... Once painted black or red, it will be like it was there all the time.
Can't be sure if the upload I did worked... here is a direct link to the picture showing where I drilled and plugged the hole.
