I use 3/16 aircraft tie down cable on my atv, never have broken it, and never had to replace it since 2007. Don't remember for sure but I believe it is rated at 10000#. Any quality industrial supply should be able to get it for you.

I'm amazed on how many people don't know how to properly winch-

everyone always loops around the tree with the winch cable and hooks the cable, which kinks & breaks it- I always use a "tree saver" strap to go around the tree and hook to the strap.

For sure use a tree saver always as well as carry a block just in case I need to double line.

not many people do the correct way when winching and i agree this is very hard on a cable as well. un reeling the cable say hooking to something w/ pressure on it is a good way to help keep the cable tighter making it stay stronger as well. imo

It's not that we "don't know how" just that we're too fu****ing lazy to do it right
