my new ATV
#181

I enjoy riding this ATV quite a bit.
I find it to be very stable and very aggressive although I know the tires play a big part of just how aggressive it is.
I am very hard on these tires (and ATV) and they eat it up. With the tires being designed for heavier SxSs they easily eat up whatever an ATV can dish out.
So far the only really mechanical issue I have had is the intermittent ADC. Hopefully one day I will get it fixed.

I was out riding here in the snow last month and thought I would go back yesterday and see how much snow was still there. We are way behind in snow fall this year and it's affecting my winter job grooming snow mobile trails but at least I can ride more than I usually can this time of year

Specta, how do you do it with your BD's. My buddy rides a 550 and just ordered a new set of Bighorns to replace his Black Diamonds. He has less than 150 miles on them and has had three flats. Two of those happened on our new years day ride and ended his ride early. The rear tire was ruined with a cut right in the bead and a hole above that. That was probably caused by low tire pressures, but you can't get a good ride from these tires at anything close to 5 psi. He was running them at 4 1/2 psi for this ride. All the reviews I've seen on these tires say to run 2.5 psi in them to get a good ride. Don't know how you can ride on pressures that low without having problems. Maybe if you don't ride anything other than smooth, or rock free trails. He also had a flat front tire when he got back to his truck. Don't know what caused that. I do know that there were 15 quads and 2 RZR's and we all rode the same trail. No one else had any tire problems. From what I've seen, I'm not impressed with the BD's. Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

No chance of that ever happening. From what I've seen, you couldn't give me set of BD's. I would take Bighorns over Black Diamonds any day.
Fortunately I got my Pitbulls so I don't need either.
Enough about tires. Glad to see you are liking your Polaris. Looks like everyone is short on snow this year but there is still time.
Here's wishing you a good New Year.
Guess I should have read your post in the tires section first.

I believe I owe you an apology. I apologize for being an ***.
I think I'm pretty hard on tires. I took out two sidewalls last year on two different sets of tires.

Here's my BHs with just under 4000 miles on them.
I never did get a flat but you can see the sidewalls are hammered.

These are on my Rubicon with about 1500 miles on them.
You can see by the rims I enjoy the rocks. Check the sidewalls - not a single mark.
I run 2 1/2 psi on both my Rubicon and 550 Touring. I purposely abuse these tires just to see what they will take and they are holding up exceptionally well.

BHs and BDs have the same type of sidewall construction and not a lot of tires share it because it costs more to produce tires that have it. Their sidewalls are constructed so that the first 1" or so of the tire next to the bead stays stiff to protect the wheel and tire. I would have to think if your friend trashed 3 BDs he would have also trashed 3 BHs.
I can't tell you how many times I have bashed a rock and thought for sure I ruined a tire only to look and not even see a bruise.
Sorry for your friends misfortune with his BDs. So far they have done nothing but impress me. These are the 7th set of tires I've had in two years and the 4th set on my 550 Touring.
I think BHs are a good trail tire, they are smooth and last a long time. However I think they are slow to respond in the steering department, handle poorly in the corners and are in no way an aggressive tire.
I'm putting on a set of Grim Reapers either today or tomorrow.

Apology accepted and thank you.
I agree that the BH's lack in lateral traction. That is about my only complaint with them. Most times it is fun to slide them around, but there were times when that could put you in a bad situation and the turn in while in the snow also caused problems a few times.
How is the wear on the BD's? Can't really tell from your picture, but with 1500 miles on them they look like they wear a little faster than the Horns.

I think they will wear about the same. The ones on my Rubicon with 1500 miles on them have worn off about 1/4" of the tread so I'm figuring 4500 miles or so.
I do run around a bit on pavement here at the resort where I never did with the BHs.
Quite a few guys have been talking up Interco Swamp Lites too.

I'd have to agree with specta in regards to the BigHorn's- I hate'em also. They just seem to have no sidewall support when running lower psi (2-4psi) so you really have to pump'em up to around 6-7 psi to keep them from folding- but then you risk slicing them easily over sharp rocks with the higher psi.
I have no experience with the BD's- but I like what I'm hearing about them in this thread.
but, like bobx2- I also run 26" pittbull growlers and absolutely love'em- I run about 3psi and there's great sidewall support and they seem to grip every surface wonderfully- trail control is super and they self clean really well.

well- they look nice if nothing else

does not seem to be a lot of sidewall rubber- wondering how bumpy the ride will be over having a taller sidewall
at least they appear to be a stable tire at 2-3psi...is that the aftermarket air compressor cover that comes with a decorative plant on top
