Default Wrong winch mount or wrong year?

I kept the winch from my old Honda and mounted it recently on my $800 800, (2006). I have seen pics of others on here with what looks like the front cover cut so that it only exposes the fair lead roller. But my winch and roller sticks out too far for that.
Wrong mount plate or is pocket for the winch deeper on other models?
The mount plate did mount right up without issue. The winch is mounted in the only set of holes in the plate for it.
Here is what I have.....

yes that is not a correct mounting plate for that style(yes they are all the same that have the storage box) as it would set in the hole further. the plastic cover wouldn't come close to snapping back in. that is a hell of a cheap price for a 06" 800

The PO was desperate for $$. Long story short..Wife got another DUI and they needed the $800 to fix her car or she would lose her job.

Do you have a part # or link for the mounting plate you have? I would like to get mine to sit back further. In the meantime though, I am going to get some of that "Liquid Electrical tape" and brush it over the terminals and seams to keep moisture out of the motor.

Possibly this might work...Gorilla isn't listed for the winches that fit but it says many other similar models might work and call for details...

Ok.... I went to that link and saw this.....

"Your Sportsman*is pre-wired with the battery wires pre-ran from your battery to the contactor mount located under your front RH wheel well."

I am about to replace the contactor anyway..... so where is this spot and does it keep the contactor protected?

Like you said...It is in front right wheel well on the frame...You will see a right angled bracket with bolts to the frame...That is for the contactor...
