Default 2011 500 ho sportsman belt issue

I was climbing a couple days ago in high gear and over heated the belt...yeh my bad I know.. My question is...I took the cover off and the belt still looks great...a very little glazing on the side. Should I change it or just carry a spare with me? How long will it run like this? It shifts and everything fine!

If you have the belt cover off you might as well just change the belt, for the $60 or so they cost.

I was told on my snowmobile web site to wash new belts in soaping water before installing them to get the re greasy residue off.
