no its not because of water! i have a scram 500 and i just put in a earlandson clutch kit and a new belt. ive always had a problem with belt slipping on this machine. when i put on a new belt it will be fine for about 2 or 3 days then im right back where i started from. when i take off on hard acceleration i can 'feel' it slipping, also when it slips it wont pull the front up. its getting expensive putting belts on this thing. i thought the clutch kit would help, but it didnt. thanks to all who reply

have you brought it back to the dealer? is it a 2001? the 2001 have a life time warranty on the belts. If i was you i would take it to a dealer and have it looked at before you spend way more in burned belts than what a visit to the dealer to get it fixed properly would cost you.

Sounds like it is time to have the pros look at it. I'd have the clutch alignment checked. Sounds like it may be off which can cause a LOT of heat! Also, check bushings etc for binding.

Two things I would check.
Clutch alignment
Rear pulley tension spring.

Polaris makes a clutch alignment tool. Maybe your dealer would let you borrow it. It simply fits over one pulley, and shows whether the other is in line with it. Takes about 30 seconds if you have the belt cover off.

The other thing is the rear pulley tension spring. If the spring is weak or broken, that will cause belt slipping. Remember, it is the REAR pulley that sets the belt tension when running. If nothing else, try a spring with more initial pressure.

its a 99, i just put in a brand new epi clutch kit and a new belt. so that rules out the secondary spring. i will have to check the clutch alignment. whats happening to the belts is its glazing the sides over and making them real smooth
