2007 polaris hawkeye 300 4x4 carb settings
#1
Hoping to get some help...I just bought a used 07 hawkeye...been trying to get it running correctly, it seems to be running rich as I keep fouling spark plugs, took the carb out and cleaned it, but I am wondering what the correct carb settings should be and where the clip should be set on the needle, right now the clip is set at the very top?can someone help me out here?

Possible that the carb needs a new needle and seat if it's running rich, fouling plugs. Usually what happens on this type problem. Look under your model "engine, carb upper, carb lower" will show the carb breakdown and parts. Can't remember the clip position, but if it's at the top now it's at the leanest position(someone may have already have been tampering with it?) clip position on most models are in the 2nd or 3rd position from the top. Another thing is tight valve clearance can cause the same thing. You'd have to pull the rocker cover and check valve clearance at TDC. Try the carb first and see if the needle and seat solves the problem. Browse

do you know how many turns out the jets should be set at?it is obvious someone messed with the carb as there are a couple screws slightly stripped on the top cover where the diaphragm and needle are...would love to know if the jets are set wrong...if I were to tighten them, how many turns out would I set them at?

Mixture is preset and the screw is under a plug at the bottom of the carb(unless someone has remove it has tampered with the settings) The big adjuster at the bottom is for the idle.
Look at the breakdown of the carb upper and lower and shows the needle and seat ,main jet and pilot jet. Internal jets are always tightened down(non adjustable) If you're not certain on working on carbs, might be best to let some one else do it as the carb is very had to remove to work on(has to go up between the two air tubes on the Hawkeye) OPT

Main jet and the pilot jet tighten up snug!! Make sure you can see through both jets. Also the float assy should be level with the carb body. If too much fuel has been a problem(fouling plugs) it's best to replace the needle and seat or you may just to have to go right back in the carb! "IF" someone has remove the round plug at the bottom of the carb exposing a small fuel /air screw, this normally sets at 2 turns out from a lightly seated position. This is separate from the main jet and pilot jet.
