Polaris 500 wire
#1
I just got a 500 sportsman think its a 2002 model cant get it to do nothing,no fire wont do nothing,i had to hotwire it because of they lost the key ,then i took off the front plastic and noticed on the circuit board there are some wires just hanngng ,and i do not know where they go,,i can diagnose a motor but wires are not my speacialty, and my other 500 and 700 do not have that style elct board to check to see how they go,, oh the bike does spin over when i put jumper cables on the batt and starter.I cant complain about the bike for the trade i did for it.

If you got a good deal on this machine, then you need to get a manual with the schematic diagram to help you on the wiring! Wires just hanging are hard to help repair over the internet! The schematic will tell you where they go. Just Google up a pdf manual for your model and you can find some cheap as 8-10 bucks. Plus there still may be places offering them for free. OPT

Thanks OPT ,you had gave me soem real good advice on my 700 with the elect system upgrade and the part number you gave worked perfect ,,do you have any idea why the rear end would be locked up its in nuetral ,and i pulled the brake caliper off the brake disk, it was rusty so i thought that was the problem but she is locked and wont do anything ,,the guy i got it from said he had pushed it in the barn where i got it from ,its been sitting about a year

The only thing I can think off off the top of my head is an internal gear case chain problem if you're sure the atv is in neutral?? This could lock up the rear end on the 500,but I'm just guessing like anyone else would. Did he say he rolled it in or pushed it in locked up the way it is now? OPT

He said it rolled ,i have been messing with the shifter ,this lil monster is way differant bike than my 700 and 500 magnum,,the trans and rear is all together and i relized i put 2003 i think this is a 99 model with the circuit board and it has the start button instead of the key switch to start it, the bike is in great shape ,i didnt realize the rear end until i got home,i was thinking this would give me a good bike or parts for the 700 ,guess i gotta start over learning Polaris

Remove the linkage rod ends from the shift box. Have the far back transmission lever straight out,the low range(front) linkage, you may have to use vice grips and turn it one way or the other. Could be just the linkage is causing the lock up. "IF" you do get it rolling, make sure the shift lever is in neutral and loosen the 10mm lock nuts on the linkage ends. Turn the small ends out or in to where they drop straight into the gear box levers with NO binding. OPT

Ok i will do that tomorrow ,at least wanna be able to roll it around the shop,, now if i can understand this terminal board and get some fire to see what else i have,,there is only a few wires disconnected and wish i had a key for this bike lol

If you have a terminal board under the front panel you probably have a 97 or 98 model. Look close, these spade connectors have the color code for the wiring on the board! OPT
