Default 2007 sportsman x2

I am looking at a 2007 sportsman with about 4500 miles. What issues am I looking at possibly having? How long do the belts last etc. I don't want to get this and then have everything start breaking on me. This is at a polaris dealer so I am hoping they went through it but no way to know if something is about to break. Is this quad at the end of its life?

Thanks

4500 miles?- hope you're getting a deal on it. don't think I'd ever buy a 4x4 atv with 4500 on it. get the 3 yr extended warranty- for peace of mind.

I also don't think I'd buy anything with that kind of mileage on it unless they are almost giving it away. ATVs, by design, are taken off road over rugged terrain. The sand, mud, snow, rocks, roots, etc. take their toll on them. Bearings, cv joints, rust, loosened bolts, etc. are all things that can go over time.

The belt is one of the easiest things to replace. I'd do that if I bought used unless the machine had very low mileage and was pristine.

At the very least I'd have it checked out by another shop or by someone you know that is mechanical.

Default What is giving it away?

Kbb shows 3500.00 trade in but does not account for mileage or condition. He told me they had just got it in and were going to ask 5900.00! Can you buy a warranty on a used atv? Also, he is the polaris dealer.

He was just kidding when he told you $5900, right???? If they are seriously going to ask that much, turn and run and never go back. That is a ridiculous price for that age and miles. Not that it matters, but is it a 500 or an 800? Dealer or no dealer, that is waaaay too much $$$$! I sold my '07 800 X2 with 2,500 miles on it two years ago for $5,700.

My mistake it is a 2008 700cc which makes the mileage even higher. Would 3500 be reasonable or even less. Would it be worth it at 3500 with a 60 day warranty? Down here there is not much on CL. Not a large population. Next place is about 200 miles away.

the dealer wont go that low- and you'd have to purchase a separate warranty for it. The dealer won't warranty a used atv.

that thing was ridden about 18 miles per week / 900 per month.

personally- I wouldn't offer more than $4500 with a winch included.
you better go through every bushing & bearing in that thing- especially if the trails around you are as rough as the trails around me, 4500 new-england trail miles- things are needing to be replaced for sure.

I just traded my 2007 700 , it had 5800 mi. the dealer gave me $3600. never had any problems and ran and drove great (very reliable). I talked to a guy from canada and he had 11000 mi on his 500 and was still running good. I think if you take care of them they will go a long time.

Hows that miles are miles? I buy used only, I go by condition not year. Lots of 4000 miles Sportsmans that were 3 and 4 years newer then the 2001 I bought with 1,100 miles for the same price.
ATVs are not an investment because of the stuff they go through. Just keep condition as your top priority.
A 10 year old ATV that some old guy uses in hunting season a few times a year is better deal then a 5 year old ATV that hits the trail every weekend.

There a guy on this site that has 10,000 miles on his new 550XP after two years of use.I don,t want that one even if its 2 years old.
