Default Outlaw 500 top end rebuild

Hey, im rebuilding an 06 Outlaw 500 for a buddy of mine, it needed a good going thru since its been running poorly lately. found a few things like a stretched timing chain, bad valve adjustment, and a compression release lobe hanging low( enough to contact the bucket when its not supposed to). so being in this area, im going to swap in a piston/rings just to make it minty fresh. my question here is..... Id like to buy the wiseco 12.5CR top end kit to bump his power some. i know he'll hafta run premium fuel, already does, and im rebuilding the carb anyway so jetting isnt an issue. but can i drop it in without any other mods? there are no footnotes to indicate any but i figured id ask. the bore has no ridge, and the crosshatch is still there with no scuffs. thanx in advance!

Normal compression ratio is 11-1 so the Wiseco shouldn't be a problem. On this plated cylinder make sure the clearance between the bottom of the Wiseco piston skirt and bottom of cylinder is between .0015 (.040 mm) to .003 (.080mm) without the rings on. You can take a simple feeler gauge and check the clearance. If the clearance is more than this the cylinder would need to be replated, but since you said you can still see the cross hatch marks it shouldn't be a problem. They already recommend at least 91 octane in the manual. The stock Austrian Elko forged piston that's already in it is one of the best pistons around. Used in KTM,a lot of Rotax engines, etc. But Wiseco knows how to bump up performance. Take a small ball hone, not a brake type hone, and lightly break the glaze from the cylinder before you install the new piston.

thanx OPT! i do have a bore hone and planned on that previously. i'll run the wiseco in this motor and post up on this link how it goes, i figure at the very least it should be super responsive due to the stronger vac. signal on the carb. the only problem is now hes gonna smoke my scrambler!
