Default lowr ball joint (anyone break one)

The reason I ask is im getting ready for summer riding and I have the bike all torn down. They look and feel o.k. but have over 4000 miles on them. Is this one of those never fail parts or has anyone experienced failures? I just don't want to have a failure at higher speeds, and with the bike apart their easy to get at now. Is it worth the piece of mind?, they are fairly expensive. Also I've seen a couple shear failures on friends bikes of a different make recently with far less miles on. just got me thinking

If the ball join shafts feel really loose and wobbly in the sockets from wear over this period of miles and since you have it torn down,I'd replace them if you're worried about it. Easier to do it now than on the trails. And yes I've had plenty of machines brought in with broken ball joints, some even where the owners were hurt. That's why they call it preventive maintenance.

Let us know which brand you chose to replace with. Most of the replacement ball joints are not greaseable.

I just did mine and used an "alls *****" b.j. It wasn`t greasable but it is now. I drilled a hole down the middle. Just put on the drill press and drilled a hole right in the middle like the old one. Not going thru all that work without being able to grease it.

i ended up getting from polaris, and they are also non-greasable now. Makes me wonder how many suppliers actually make these things. I had a friend that works at a dealership get me them at cost, so the price wasn't too bad. Most mark up around here is 80-100% it looks like

Here is a good read for you if you want to get many replacement parts from a Automotive parts store rather then a Polaris dealer.
Save me lots of time and money.

Make a list of common numbers we need
