Default New tyres on Sportsman

I'm contemplating fitting either 26-10x12 or 27-10x12 Innova Mudgears all around to my 500HO. They will be going on 7x12 bead lock rims.

Just wondering if anyone wants to say yes or no??

What are your thoughts??

All the best

JF

I'd stay with 26" tires or get a clutch kit for the 27's. If you go to the 27's you'll lose a lot of low end power. I know the 26's will fit but you will need more of a offset on your rims or spacers to clear the tie rod ends. I had 26" ITP Mudlite XTRs on my 2006 Sportsman X2 500 and it did pretty good with them. I did have to space out the stock rims 3/8" to clear the tie rod ends though.

why not go 26" with 11s on the back and 9s up front? with the correct rims you won't have to space anything. Those tires are heavy too stay as small as possible.

Ten wide fronts will make the steering tougher. I agree go 9" wide fronts and may 11" or even 12 wide backs.

I love my new 26x9-12 and 26x11-12 Maxxis zillas on my 350. Not to be mistaken for the hard core Mud Zilla.
There the lightest mud tire you can find and are 6ply with a tall 1.2 lug and a good price.
The 27x11-12 weight only 23.4 lbs!
In comparison a smaller and thinner 26x10-12 swamplite with a shorter 1.12" lug weighs in at 27lbs. http://www.mud-throwers.com/inc/sdetail/6590/12045

Larger lug, larger and wider tire but less weight its just a win win I thought.

Zillas are an awesome tire, thats what ive been running for 3 years, and they are still good for a few more. With a 500 engine, you won't notice as much of a power drop as you would with heavier tires, and believe me there is a definite drop in HP at the ground.

This is exactly why I posted the thread.

I'm doing an 8 day competition with the ATV and I need to take at least one spare wheel and tyre, possibly 2. Keeping them all the same makes life easier.

I'm also running beadlocks on stock steel wheels so there is already more weight involved.

I was considering running the fronts quite hard and leave the rears softer but this was just an idea I had.

I've been ready to order the tyres on a couple of occasions but pulled back with doubts.

Keep em coming.

JF

I like the Zillas, if only some of the lugs continued on the side wall a bit.

Any experiences of Anclas????

Looking again at Swamp Lites, if I can find a dealer willing to ship to the UK to give me a quote.

Swamp Lites are a little on the softer, wear faster, side of things. Usually about the best priced fairly aggressive tire.
