Polaris 400 Not Running
#1
Hello all, can anyone help?
I got my brother in laws Polaris 400 sitting in my garage, half apart, and we can’t get it running.
It will pull start, and idle fine, but one you give it gas, it pops and won’t rev up or run, and the dash electrical lights flash and go in and out.
Thought maybe the carb was dirty, took that out and cleaned it, still same problem.
The battery is DEAD though, we’ve been pull starting it all summer, because those of you who know, the battery is a PITA to change on the 400.
The battery also will not hold a charge, at all, it won’t even light up the dash lights.
Any advice?

Regulator may already be fried. Install a new battery as it needs the voltage for the fan and awd(if has it) to operate along with the lights.Popping bulbs was also a common thing on these with a dead battery. While running make sure you're charging 14 volts back to the battery. If not, check that the wiring is ok at the regulator. Some were bad on the Red wire connection pulling loose. Most of the time it's a faulty regulator/rectifier if the wiring is ok and still not charging..
