Default 325 problem

I just got a Polaris 325. I don't know the year yet and will have to find the VIN tomorrow.

The fellow I bought it from said it wasn't running and thought it was because it had been sitting for two years....Anyway

I got it home and hooked up a battery. Nothing except the neutral light. Starter, lights, everything was dead. The neutral light goes on and off with the switch and kill switch so something's getting power.

I bypassed the solenoid and the starter kicked.

Then I hooked the battery to the bottom of the circuit breaker at the battery. No change. Everything was dead at the handlebars except the neutral light.

I decided to pull the starter cord to make sure the compression was OK.

It started first pull....here's where it gets strange.

It runs like it's new, still no lights, Etc... AND, the key won't cut the engine off, even the kill switch has no effect.

To stop it, I have to choke it or cut the gas and let it run out.

Any ideas what's going on and where to start looking?

Thanks in advance.

Pop the front panel and see if the black kill wire from the cdi module is hooked up. If it isn't,you'd have to choke it down to kill it. Sounds like you need to check out the lights bulbs. If it's run with a dead or no battery, electrical surges can pop bulbs.Same for the instrument panel bulbs.

Thanks...There is a small black wire coming from the CDI that's been cut. I have no idea where it may go though.

There is another small green wire going to a connector and larger yellow wire that has also been cut but the Green and black are different colors.

An update on the starter. I'm pretty stupid. I had no idea the kill switch moved UP to start. I've been punching the overdrive.
Starter is working fine now.

Patch the black wire up and see if you can kill the engine with either the ignition switch or the left control switch on/off. The green and yellow wires are for the lights. If it's a 325 here's a link to a cheap 5 buck manual. The wiring schematic is pretty much the same whether it's a Trail boss,Trail Blazer or Magnum.http://polaris-atv.brssm.com/2002-Po...ce-Manual.html
