Default 1996 xplorer 400 loads up

My 96 xplorer 400 won't stop loading up, if you turn the fuel valve down it will run better but u have to constantly adjust fuel valve. I put a new needle and seat in the carb, no change. Then I tried draining the injection oil tank and mixing the gas incase the injection pump was feeding to much oil, still no change. If anyone has any help I would greatly appreciate it I'm defiantly at a loss for what to try next. Thanks

What about the float arm and float pin? Did you replace them? Most people don't as it's not in the kits and if there is a lot of play, the float arm can stick or be slow to shut off the fuel flow.Plus normally when the carb is held upside down the float arm is parallel with the carb body.Plus it should have a rubber dampener mounted on the transmission to stop the carb from vibrating and dumping fuel. #13 and 14.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Thanks , I checked the float arm and float pin they seem nice and tight but like u say were not in the carb kit. What is the rubber damper u speak of ?? Does it support the carb somehow ?

Item#9. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse This part was added on the later 94 model 400s to keep carb vibration down and to keep them from dumping a load of fuel into the intake. They could accelerate great,but then bog down until fuel filled the float chamber again.This rubber dampener solved this fuel dumping problem for the most part,but the 400 engine was still the worst on carb float arm and needle and seat wear because of engine vibration with or without this dampener. If the dampener is in place and you can eliminate the carb,the next thing I'd do is a compression check just to see what shape the top end is in. If it's getting down to 120 psi or so,could be time to freshen it up.
