Smile 1995 Xplorer 300 4x4 primary clutch

Hi all.
I just picked up an old 1995 Xplorer 300 4x4 as a restoration project and one of the first things I noticed was a cracked primary clutch inner sheave. I went looking for a replacement on ebay and found a complete clutch from a 1997 425 Magnum with the seller making the following statement...

"This is the drive clutch or Primary clutch off of a 1997 425 Magnum but it will fit ANY polaris atv without EBS. Bolts on with no changes for ANY 4stroke Polaris. Would need weight changed for 2stroke and maybe the spring."

Before buying it, I'd just like to be reassured that the sellers statement is correct.
Can anyone help?

Statement is basically correct from the seller.May be minor differences in the clutches, but still should fit your crank shaft. Weights would need to be changed along with the spring from your old clutch as he mentioned. Except haven't seen a 95 Explorer 300... Maybe a 300 2x4 or 4x4,but shouldn't matter on the clutches. In fact clutch part numbers are the same for the 95 300 and 97 Magnum 425. #1321632

Plus I didn't use the advanced search on Polaris Parts Catalog. This non ebs clutch # fits almost every Polaris made..

Thanks for the reply and valuable info OPT.
You are correct, it's a 300 4x4, not an Xplorer, I don't know where I got that idea from??
Anyhow, now I can shop for a clutch knowing that I'm not limited to the specific model which is good news.
Just curious, what's the general consensus on these old 2 strokes, were they decent ATVs in their day? This is my first 4 wheeler, I just sold my beloved Honda 200M 3 wheeler and I'm looking forward to getting off road again.

Good engines but do have more noise than the old 250 two stroke engine. All depends on how it was taken care of,but two strokes in general need quicker top end service than most four strokes just because of their design.Keeping air filters clean is mandatory.

Good to know... I own 4 snowmobiles so I know all about top ends on 2 strokes.
