U-joint problems
#1
Last weekend i went riding and I got no more than 300ft. out of my lane before the u-joint popped off the drive shaft to the wheel. Now it'll be at least a couple weeks before the dealer will be able to get to fix it. So, to save me time and money how hard is it to fix the drive shaft and/or the u-joint?

The u-joints for the rear axel on a 98 SP500 are Neapco part#1-1275 Pep Boys $15 Polaris $55
Neapco part#1-1875
This is the same part your bike came with. neapco makes this u-joint for Polaris. If you have an ounce of commen sense, you should be able to handle thgis without a trip to the dealer. Usually when the u-jount gets so bad that it comes out, the yoke is going to be damaged, which means you will have to buy a new one... the proble is that both yokes are usually bent a little which means you need both peices. They are $60 each. You can buy the whole axel for $180, and that is what i would do if the yokes are damaged. If the bearing carrier is damaged, that will be another $60 and if the lower a-arm is damaged, that is another $60. Also, if the bearing carrier is damaged, good luck getting the bearing out. I had to go back into the shop at the Polaris place in Marshall texas and do it myself because the dealers mech could not get it out.

It is really easy, dont spend the money to have the dealer do it. Yes you can buy the u-joint at napa, the part number is 507.
The hardest part is pounding the caps out of the shaft. Make sure you pop the clip before you start, not that I havn't.
It is a pretty greasy ordeal though, so be ready to get dirty.

See, I knew there was something wrong with that Dealership in Marshall.... Gregs been back there!!!!!... haha... Just kiddin greg..
Thats not much of a shop or dealership. That guy sold a bike to a lady friend of mine and 3 months later it broke the rear axle, He tried to stick it to her by saying that it wasn't under warranty. (2000 Expedition 425, Stock bike, no mods, girl driver)He told her to write him a check for the parts and labor bill, then he'd do HER a favor and TRY to get Polaris to cover some of it... IF he could pull it off, he'd mail her check back to her... LIKE HE WAS DOING HER A FAVOR!!!..
I could post how I REALLY feel about that dealership, but it would probably get deleted and I would get banned...
