grease zerk

Question grease zerk

just went to grease my rear axle carrier and i pulled out the grease zerk...its hard to see any threads and am wondering if these are threaded or just pressed in??

Pressed in on this one. Just go to an auto store and get a 1/4-28 pitch threaded one and tap the rear housing then you won't have any more problems on one pulling out,OR you can just try another push in.Most auto/hardware stores have both in 1/4".http://www.ebay.com/itm/Polaris-Lube-Fitting-With-Ball-7080306-ALL-models-in-description-SOLD-INDIVID-/201091362928?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ed1fab070&vxp=mtr

i went to local atv shop, they had a push in...they told me to put it in the freezer for an hour before pressing it in...do u think this is good advise?

Yes as it shrinks the metal fitting a minute amount. Also you can heat the housing to where it expands a little making it easier to install. Then let it cool off. Same principle as installing bearings in an engine case,put the bearings in the freezer,heat the case and a lot of times bearings just drop in. Once cooled you have to knock them out to remove them.

great thanks! ive done the freeze technique with bearings just dble checking it was ok for the zerk(guess i do ride in winter so that was a dumb question lol)
