Oil in Starter
#1
I was changing all of the fluids in my 400 Xplorer today and while I was down there I removed the drain screw from the starter. When I took it out about 3 table spoons of oil came out. I thought that screw was just to drain any water that might seep in. Do I need to replace this oil somehow.
Thanks

Are you sure that plug was the starter drain?
The reason I ask is that there is a drain plug(for the counter bal. shaft) very very close to the starter drain it(the counter bal. area) will only hold 75-100 cc of oil(depending on the year)
DO NOT RIDE IT WITHOUT THE COUNTER BAL. OIL!!!!

Has anone else had the problem of the starter freezing during the winter. Even when I drain the water out of the starter it still freezes. What I have done for the past two winters is spray Rust Check (in the green can) up into the starter after I drain the water. The Rust Check displaces the water and sticks to the inside of the starter "gears". The freezing is less frequent now.
