Default Question on gears and noise

I’m new to owning a 4 wheeler. I know have 2 Polaris 2004 -700 Sportsman and 2014 -570. The 2004 is very hard to change gears what could it be? It has the leaver on the right side by where you leg is. Then both of them make a noise when you go forward or backwards. If it was a car I would say sounds like transmission but wasn’t sure if this is a Polaris sound or I truly do have trans problems? Any suggestions?

welcome to the Polaris forum. when you say hard to put in f/n/r is the bike trying to move on when you let off the brake say on flat ground? they do make some noise but should not grind while going into gears as long as the idle is not too high. if the bike is trying to what we call "creeping" meaning still moving by it self while trying to change gears then it might have an ebs bushing issue.
