Just wondering if anyone with a new Sportsman 400 knows what kind of mileage it gets. I just bought a new one the other day and was wondering how far I could go on a tank of gas. Thanks

I just posted a similar question in the Honda Forum about my 400EX. I calculated (roughly 20.76mpg for it) I had my 2000 SP335 with me too. And at 54 miles, I hadn't yet gone to the reserve and it still seemed to have some gas left. I added more, so never got an accurate measurement, but I'm guessing between 18-21MPG.
I would think the SP400 would be close in mileage.

I just got a new 400 Sportsman as well and I went 20 miles and more than half a tank left. I figure I can go 50 plus pretty easily on a tank. Probably more like 60 but I won't push it.

Hey toby01,
I didn't get rid of the Explorer yet because I think I'm going to keep it for the summer and probably sell it around September unless the right buyer comes around this summer It's a good bike and it'll go faster than the Sportsman so it'd be nice to have two to go to rallys rather than doubling up. I see you're from Halifax. Always nice to see people from Canada in this forum. Do you ever come up around Wentworth (I live close to the ski hill)? What do you drive? Might see you at some rally's this summer (Londendarry, Sutherlands Lake, Great Village, Bass River, etc.)

HEY polarNS,
actually I been looking for Xpl 400 could you tell me what 95, 96 models would be worth and have you had any problems with yours, most dealers don`t stock them and don`t have much good to say about them because they are two stroke . I have seen some a 2000 for $5300 + and 98 for $4400 +, like to get a 95 or 96 something cheaper because they are the same except the color up to 99? Is yours in good shape and do you have many miles, also looking at 96 2000 miles for $3400 but needs rear bushings? do they go often and is it an expensive fix, thanks

On my 500 Sportsman I can get 100 miles out of a tank, you should get the same with the 400, I usaually fill up at 80 - 90 miles, I have gone 109 miles without using reserve, we have 5 gallon tanks at an average of 20 mpg 80-100 is not unusual. I get 15-23 mpg gallon depending on usage, if I spend all day in the mud and in 4x4 mode I get 15-17 mpg. If I cruise all day I have gotten 23 mpg. Best way to test fill her up , reset tripometer and ride like you normally would , refill at the end of the day take tripometer miles and divide by the number of gallons needed to fill her back up.
