AC500 AUTO vs. SP500

I'd take the AC in a heartbeat! Its cheaper, better built, more reliable, not as heavy, and a far better "utility" quad then the SP. Plus the AC riders are a great bunch of guys. It seems like most of the Polaris riders are so hung up on themselves that they have missed the point completely!

I don't drive with just people who wheel with Polaris 4 wheelers. I have alot of buddies who own AC, SP's, Traxters, and Yamies. All that I am saying is that I have been in situations that the SP was better suited because of having true 4-wheel drive then the AC. The SP don't need a
Differential locking kit like a Grizz or AC. I have ridden the Grizz, Big Bear & AC and like all of them, but I have to give the edge to the Polaris SP. As far as Reliability goes, it doesn't matter Cause I usually buy a new ATV every 2 years. Plus Polaris has a bumper to bumper 5-year warranty, lifetime on the belt. You can't beat the Polaris' independent rear suspension BTW- I ride in lot of Swamps and muck. I have seen the SP and the Traxter buried up to the Handlebars where even a warn 2000 wouldn't get them out. Took 2 Wheelers with winches to get them out. It don't matter what 4 wheeler you have. Where I go, I Guarantee it is not going to matter what you drive it will get stuck, The point being is you are not going get to stuck as fast with a SP like you are with a AC.

So here's the update:
My friend shopped them all and bought
two HONDAS. (Foreman450ES and Rancher350ES)
I rode them both and came away all confused.
The Honda build quality is superb. They are very
high quality machines. I was amazed at how much
I liked the Rancher- it really scoots along.
I have ordered up a check for $7000.00 from
New York bank to buy a machine.
My dilema: I really appreciated the Honda quality
and fit and finish. I did NOT like the lack of
2wd/4wd switch and sealed drum breaks. The breaks
did work just fine, but discs just seem so much
more appropriate.
I did not mind the push button electronic shifting
but would really prefer an automatic.
The dealer he bought from carries Honda and
Polaris. He heard the usual stuff about how much
more reliable the Honda is versus the Polaris.
I will buy either a Rubicon or SP500 HO as soon
as the check arrives. The difference in price
is diminished because the dealer will apply
$300 Honda bucks towards the Rubicon.
They are within $100 of each other.
I do not think either one will fit in a short
bed with the tailgate UP.
Oh well, time will tell.

BOUGHT THE SP 500 HO!!!!
I brought home a new HO on Tuesday- RED.
Drove it around the lot and stuff. Today I
drove it through dirt and junk where they are
preparing to build new houses. Big dirt piles and
scruffed up land... grass, inclines, ditches etc...
got enough of a feel for it to know I made the right
choice. It is VERY capable and VERY fast.
Bought a heat gun to remove all the damn stickers-
they are every where!!! All went well but using
WD-40 and gas to remove residue left a dull finish...
Will Pledge furniture polish or some other mild wax
restore the lusture to the plastic?
It fits fine in my 2001 F-150 short bed. I have made a
wood blocking ram that sits at the front of the bed.
Tailgate fits snug and the rack of the SP 500 is about
an inch from the rear window glass.

Perfect wood ram for front of shortbed pick-up.
I am sure there are easier solutions but this one works
just right for me. (Ford 2001 F-150 short bed and 2001 SP 500 HO)
All pieces cut to 57 inches long- fits right to bed wall behind cab
Bottom 2X8
next 4X6 nailed to back edge of 2X8
next 2 layers of 2X4- rip off 3/8 inch from
the width nail on back edge of the 4X6
This gives a perfect incline for the stock tires to snug
up to and leaves one inch clearance between front rack
and sliding rear window glass... tailgate closes easily.
