AC500 AUTO vs. SP500
#483
Sorry (kind of) I don't have a Cat and I'm not doing a comparison between two machines.
http://forums.atvconnection.com/pola...y-new-atv.html
To me is the problem with shoot outs and comparisons is that the riders only put a few miles on them and don't get to really figure the machine out and ride it in all kinds of conditions and terrain and you are the judge not them. They need to list the pros and cons and let you make the decission. Not everyone puts the same priority on the different features and benefits of each machine.
Print the facts and I'll make the decision.
(I never look at the dates the threads were started LOL)

I know these shootouts are in 2005 and 2009 but the AC 500 could not beat the SP500,and as far as I know the AC500 still uses the same 493cc motor it always used.

Also I think AC does not make a 500 anylonger they make a 450 and 550. The 450 cost more then the Polaris SP500 2012 Arctic Cat 450i ATVs
If your comparing the AC 550 then it would go up against the XP550 not the SP500 to make things fair.

This post was started in 1999 when the biggest "Big Bore" you could get was a Grizzly 600. This was actually a valid arguement at the time due to Polaris just beginning to work their way out of the "reliability" issue. It quickly turned into just random garbage that made it grow in size. Most of the people that posted in it are no longer active in the forums, but this was a period of time just before a whole lot of innovation changed up what the atv world had been for about 10 years.
Good point about shootouts though. It used to be, the fastest utility normally won every shootout. Mainly because the guys writing the articles were more into sport quads, and suddenly body roll and acceleration were major factors in which Ute was the best. I always was under the impression that if the Sportsman 500 was made by Honda at the time, things would have been a lot different. I've posted probably less than 30 times in the last 5 or so years, but I sure had a lot of fun on this forum from 97-03. (you will never see anyone with a "member since" date earlier than July 1999. That was when Connection changed their format, and everyone had to make a new Login. This forum was going strong since the earlier days of internet message boards/forums. So different today, than what looked similar to typewriter print 15 years ago.)
