2005 Sportsman 400 - No Power
Hi Everyone, I am new here and I hope someone might be able to help me figure out how to troubleshoot the issue I am having. (I have this posted in another forum also and will update here with any update I get from there)
Pulled out quad last week after the winter. Battery dead. Charged it up, and turned the key - got the starter to turn, but the bendex was not engaging. Opened up the flywheel/stator cover and it needed a cleaning. Was not in bad shape, cleaned it up, loosened up the bendex and was ready to seal this area up again, but first I wanted to test it out. When I reconnected the battery again, the whole bike was pretty much dead, headlights do not work. Nothing when I move the on/off, switch from off to run. The whole Dashboard display is dead. When I turn the key - nothing to the starter, no clicking, etc. The only thing that is running, is the fan on the quad is running consistently while the battery is connected - won't stop unless I disconnect it.
I cannot recall if the dash lit up last week when I was trying to start initially. I am thinking that it may not have - but just not sure - I don't recall it lighting up (But would the starter have turned without this?)
The battery is fully charged - over 12.6 V
Where do I start troubleshooting? I want to try to get this done myself at this point.
I appreciate any help and testing steps. I have a multimeter.
thanks very much, Vincent
