My xplorer is lunging or acting like something is hanging up while riding. The motor runs smooth, no missing or hesitating, could the belt be slipping or the clutch messing up.

Belt or clutch buttons, call your dealer and ask them the belt diag and meas. it and see if it's within specs. This will tell you if it's your belt or not. When I had my buttons break on me, it would barely move during take off, but would slowly gain speed.

I dont have any problem with it at take off or gaining speed. My problem is almost like a tire bumping only it doesnt feel like it is in the front end, but the whole machine. The engine doesnt change pitch or anything, you just feel the surging in the bike.

It sounds to me like you have a narrow spot in your belt. Check the width all the way around your belt and make sure it is the same width and with in the tolerance in the manual.
