Gonna need a winch!

Boner, a couple of points. Those "rolling load" and "boats, this heavy!" figures you quote aren't as useful as maximum line pull, because the measurement method remains unclear.
I don't know what winch you're considering, but if it's an automobile cradle-type like the Warn multi-mount, I doubt your Arctic Cat electrical system can produce enough current to use its full potential.
Regarding insufficient cable for ****** block operation, auxiliary cable or rope can be used to fasten onto a pull point, such as a tree; the ****** block can be attached to the auxiliary line, and the vehicle extracted in successive "bites," shortening the auxiliary line each pull, extending the cable to tie on again.
Regardless, good luck with your new winch, where you ride, you'll need it!

David,
If you have the coins... go ahead and get the Rule 3300. Its the one winch that IS warranted to be used in "marine" applications and the motor IS waterproofed.
Sportsman 500's are great machines, but they ARE heavy.. drop that puppy in 2 ft. in heavy "I'm sucking you to the bottom" grey clay.. and a Warn just doesn't have the grunt to get you out of there. It really comes down to what you play in and how much $$$$ you have to spend...
Good Luck in your Decision.

Boner,
You asked a question earlier that no one answered, "what do you do if your cable isn't long enough?"
I always carry extra rope/webbing to connect to a tree so I don't have to put the hook back onto the wire (this weakens the wire because of the angle created, generally a 90 degree bend). You can always tie the rope to a tree and then the winch cable will hook onto the other end.
Most winches can pull harder than any two men. I knew a world-class powerlifter who could squat 570 lbs. If you put two of these guys together, it's still only 1140 lbs. of pull.
Always take extra rope to tie-off the back-end of your ATV. You can quickly exceed the holding friction of your brakes and tires when trying to pull someone up an incline.
As for the 30,000 lbs. winch, I would worry that it would rip your ATV in half. I don't think anyone welds a frame to handle that much force.
Happy winching!
