How do the Polaris manufacturers rate the towing capacity of their quads? My 335 Sportsman is rated at 850 pounds; yea right! I 've pulled twice that,easily.

I believe all quad manufacturers are required to rate towing ability based on braking capability. I don't think the base they are allowed to base it on HP, gearing, etc.

That is correct. You can pull a lot more than the rating on any quad. Its just safer for the manufacturers to recommend a lower figure. That way if problems, damage, or accidents occur, the manufacturers can't be liable for someone exceeding their claimed tow ratings.
