I have A 2001 Sportsman 400 and the temp light flickers when I ride (on and off)I only rode it for 10 min. and not hard. Then the Quad sat all night and I turned the key without starting it and it was on bright then it will go out again after I rode it for a while. Sounds like a bad temp sensor, is the fan cycling? A service manual probably has a procedure to check out the sensor but I don't have one yet so I can't help.
