i have a 1998 trailblazer, The starter is not ingaging. Is it possible to pull the starter out of the quad with out removing the the clutch and belt. It looks like the back cover needs to come off to reach the bolts and slide it out. Anyone have a manual or tell me the best way to do this. I think the starter just needs to be cleaned.

The starter can be removed and installed without removing the clutch. There are two bolts behind the pull start cover (10mm) and two bolts holding the starter to a bracket on the back of the starter. The rebuilt will be @ $45.00 for the parts. Not a bad job except the bolts on the back of the starter are tough to get at.

I bought a new Trail Balzer last Saturday (WOOT! ) and so far I love it. The repair guy told me that the starter is about the only time he sees a Trail Blazer for maintenance. He said that the recoil unit does not seal on the top really well, and if you do alot of water riding, you should drain the start/recoil area by using the bolt on the bottom. I have not looked or tried this yet, but I figured I'd toss it in as a preventative thing. Overall, I am pleased with the handling and pep of the Trail Blazer. I could not expect much more for the money...

YES! If you mix water with Trail Blazer or 250 Explorer you MUST always drain both pull and electric starters. My brother always pulled the skid plate to do it. Not a hard job, just a pain. Otherwise no problems with either one.
