Oil spray on side of quad after high speed run
#1
After riding at almost full throttle for about 3 miles, I noticed oil running down my belt housing cover. It appeared to be coming from the vent hose, but I cant understand why. I thought it might be a blown seal on the transmission or motor and the oil was coming out of the belt housing but the belt would have started to slip if this was the case. I finished my ride and it didnt leak anymore. A friend told me that his 4-stroke yamaha dirtbike does the same thing after riding wide open for extended periods of time. Does this sound normal? It was not alot of oil, but enough to run down the clutch cover in three spots.
Thanks

That sounds like the same problem. The oil breather line above the oil filter had oil on it where it connected to the breather filter. I was unable to determine exactly where the oil was coming from though. What did they replace on yours to solve the problem?

They actually replaced the oil lines. Mine is a 2001, the dealer told me the bike had the "older" oil lines. Apparantly yhey had a bunch of problems so they replaced the oil lines with the newer ones. It's a recall. I could not find where the leak was coming from either, I found oil all over the front of the machine, mostly the A-Arms.

I agree that any oil leak is not mormal, or at least I hope not. But several people I have spoken to have said the same thing about four stroke motors spitting oil out of the crankcase breather when run at high rpms for extended periods of time. I want to know if anyone else has heard of this or experienced it. My Magnum has NOT leaked anymore oil since. Seems wierd to me but actually saw a similar thing happen on a Raptor(pushed oil out of the Reservoir), and a YZ426 dirtbike.
